Similarly, if you need a fade bias, only the LS model heads offer a Fade setting; on a standard or Max head you cannot open the face with the hosel alone, so don’t buy a used standard head expecting to set it to a fade.
How to Confirm Your Hosel’s Options on the Actual Club
Before you adjust, verify which generation and model you own by reading the markings on the hosel ring and the sole plate:
- Look at the ring. Standard eight‑position rings have numbers 1–8 with no letters other than “D” for Draw or “S” for Standard. If you see an “F” (Fade) among the positions, you have an LS (low‑spin) head from the LTDx, Aerojet, or Darkspeed line. That head can give you a slightly open face; the standard and Max heads cannot.
- Check the torque spec. Every Cobra Myfly driver has a torque value printed on the sole near the screw, usually 40 in‑lbs. If you’re using an aftermarket torque wrench, confirm it’s set to that spec. Overtightening strips the threads; undertightening lets the head shift during the swing.
- Read the quick‑start card or the diagram on the head. Cobra typically prints the loft/lie matrix on the inside of the hosel ring or on a sticker under the grip. If that’s worn, match the setting numbers to the table in the manual for your exact model year.

3. The Fade setting is not universal. Standard and Max heads (the majority of Cobra drivers sold) have no Fade position. If you buy a used driver expecting to set it to a fade, verify the model lettering. LTDx LS, Aerojet LS, and Darkspeed LS are the only heads with the extra “F” position. On every other head, the hosel can only produce neutral or draw bias.

- The –1.5° setting is sometimes labeled “–1°” on the ring. Check the manual if you see “Lo” instead.
- No Fade option exists on any of these heads.
LTDx and Aerojet (2022–2023)
- Standard and Max heads keep the same eight positions.
- LS heads gain a ninth position: the Fade setting, labeled “F.” It flattens the lie (face appears slightly open) and replaces one of the redundant Draw settings. On LS heads you lose a Draw position to accommodate the Fade.
Darkspeed (2024+)
- The –1.5° position is now printed as “–1°” on most retail units.
- The Draw lie change is milder (about 2° upright) to reduce hook risk for higher‑speed players.

- “The Draw setting adds loft.” No. Draw only tilts the lie upright; loft stays the same as the corresponding Standard setting (e.g., setting 2 is the same loft as setting 1, just with draw bias). To add both loft and draw, use setting 4 (+1° Draw) or setting 8 (+1.5° Draw).
- “I can make the face open with the hosel.” Only if you own an LS head and select the Fade position. On all other Cobra drivers, every setting keeps the face square at address; Draw settings make it look slightly closed because the sole sits upright.
- “Lowering loft always reduces spin.” It typically drops 300–500 rpm and 1–2° of launch, but impact location matters more. A low strike with –1.5° can still spin high if you catch it low on the face.
Practical Tuning Steps for Your Playing Style
Use the hosel as a coarse dial, then test one change per range session.
- Balloons too much: Drop to –1.5° Standard lie. If still high, consider a lower‑spin shaft.
- Too low and runs out: Go to +1° or +1.5° Standard lie. If you also slice, try the Draw version of that loft (e.g., +1° Draw) to add a small draw while keeping the launch boost.
- Slices or fades: First check your grip and face angle at impact. If the face is open, move to the Draw position at your current loft. This can tighten a slice by 5–10 yards on a typical miss. Do not jump to a higher loft unless you also need more carry.
- Hooks excessively: Switch from Draw back to Standard lie. If the hook continues, the problem is likely swing path or a shaft that’s too soft—no hosel setting will fix it.
When to Leave the Hosel at Factory Standard
The factory position (setting 1, Standard) is a safe starting point for most golfers. If your on‑course or launch‑monitor numbers are within your target window (e.g., 10–14° launch, 2000–2800 rpm spin for moderate swing speed), there’s no benefit to changing.
